Mosquito menace in project area, say workers
Dengue fever has broken out among the workers of the under-construction
Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) project in Ishwardi upazila in Pabna.
There is a huge amount of mosquitoes in the project area and that’s why
fever has broken out, said the workers.
However, though the dengue fever has broken out in the project area, there is no
larva of Aedes mosquito, the variant of mosquito that carried the dangue- virus,
claimed civil surgeon Manisar Chowdhury.
He also said they have been taking various steps to curb the outbreak of dangue.
Nearly 250 patients have undergone treatment at two hospitals in the district. Over 80 per cent of them are the workers of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.
Currently, 25 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals while another 40 foreign citizens, suffering from dangue fever, have been taking treatment at different hospitals including in Dhaka, said the project sources.
Nearly 100 patients have taken treatment at the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. Among them, 80/85 are the workers of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. Ten, including nine workers of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project, patients were taking treatment at the Upazila Health Complex on Friday.
